Feb 2007 Vortex Events was asked to provide 15 Zapcats for a
televised event in April in the Isle of Skye.
A contemporary adventurous re-run in reverse of the flight of
Bonnie Prince Charlie, this was the second year the Drambuie
Pursuit has been held. Vortex Events was asked by the
organisers, to deliver a fast action, adrenalin packed
starting leg, replacing the RIB ride section previously held
from Skye to the famous Eilean Donan castle.
Logistically this meant recruiting race drivers and their
boats and transporting everything to the North West of
Scotland including drysuits, safety equipment, tents, spares
and then setting up before hosting a series of pre-event
safety briefings and demonstrations.
With the RNLI inshore lifeboat and the local sailing club
providing safety cover, 15 Zapcats supplied by Vortex Racing
and Zapcat owner / racers from across the south travelled to
Kyle of Loch Alsh and put on a fantastic high speed display
that kept the helicopter cameramen very busy and competitors
holding on very tight.
In perfect weather, surrounded by amazing scenery it was a
case of 15 engines, howling and roaring as 100 spirited
competitors in the 2007 Drambuie Pursuit were transported
across Loch Alsh from Skye on Friday 27th &
Saturday 28th April.
25 bottles of Drambuie, 2 days, 15 Zapcats, 40 trade
customers, 60 lucky consumers and journalists in teams of 4,
and the Southampton based Vortex Events team.
The Channel 4 coverage on the Drambuie Pursuit web site shows
how the teams tackled all the challenges including Zapcats,
Mountain Biking, White Water Rafting, Archery, Canoeing,
Abseiling and Quad Buggies across the Highlands from Skye to
Inverness.
An amazing event and one we very much looking forward to
returning to this year, judging by the reaction of the
competitors, locals, press, organisers and sponsor, not only
were they very impressed by the boats but the skill and level
of professionalism showed by the drivers and Vortex Events
staff.
